Healthy adults aged 18-55 years with no history of laboratory confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection or of COVID-19-like symptoms were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 at a dose of 5\u2008\u00d7\u200810<sup>10<\/sup> viral particles or MenACWY as a single intramuscular injection. ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 showed an acceptable safety profile, and homologous boosting increased antibody responses. These results, together with the induction of both humoral and cellular immune responses, support large-scale evaluation of this candidate vaccine in an ongoing phase 3 programme.\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1056\/NEJMoa2021436?articleTools=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Dexamethasone in Hospitalized Patients with Covid-19 &#8211; Preliminary Report<\/em><\/strong><\/a><em><br \/>\nIn this controlled, open-label trial comparing a range of possible treatments in patients who were hospitalized with Covid-19, we randomly assigned patients to receive oral or intravenous dexamethasone (at a dose of 6 mg once daily) for up to 10 days or to receive usual care alone. The primary outcome was 28-day mortality. In patients hospitalized with Covid-19, the use of dexamethasone resulted in lower 28-day mortality among those who were receiving either invasive mechanical ven- tilation or oxygen alone at randomization but not among those receiving no respi- ratory support.\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.journalofhospitalmedicine.com\/jhospmed\/article\/225402\/hospital-medicine\/effect-systemic-glucocorticoids-mortality-or-mechanical\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Effect of Systemic Glucocorticoids on Mortality or Mechanical Ventilation in Patients With COVID-19<\/em><\/strong><\/a><em><br \/>\nThis study was designed to determine whether systemic glucocorticoid treatment in COVID-19 patients is associated with reduced mortality or mechanical ventilation. This observational study included 1,806 hospitalized COVID-19 patients; 140 were treated with glucocorticoids within 48 hours of admission. Early use of glucocorticoids was not associated with mortality or mechanical ventilation. However, glucocorticoid treatment of patients with initial C-reactive protein (CRP) \u226520 mg\/dL was associated with significantly reduced risk of mortality or mechanical ventilation (odds ratio, 0.23; 95% CI, 0.08-0.70), while glucocorticoid treatment of patients with CRP &lt;10 mg\/dL was associated with significantly increased risk of mortality or mechanical ventilation (OR, 2.64; 95% CI, 1.39-5.03).
