Patients requiring mechanical ventilation 13\/40 (32.5%) did not differ in age, comorbidities, radiological findings, respiratory rate or qSofa score. However, elevated interleukin-6 (IL-6) was strongly associated with the need for mechanical ventilation (p=1.2\u00b710- 5). In addition, the maximal IL-6 level (cutoff 80 pg\/ml) for each patient during disease predicted respiratory failure with high accuracy (p=1.7\u00b710-8, AUC=0.98). The risk of respiratory failure for patients with IL-6 levels of \u2265 80pg \/ml was 22 times higher compared to patients with lower IL- 6 levels.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/annals.org\/aim\/fullarticle\/2764199\/use-hydroxychloroquine-chloroquine-during-covid-19-pandemic-what-every-clinician#.Xop2W36YuVA.email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Use of Hydroxychloroquine and Chloroquine During the COVID-19 Pandemic: What Every Clinician Should Know<\/strong><\/a><br>\n<em>Emergency Use Authorization was granted last week for hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) because of drug shortages in the U.S. largely due to hoarding and panic buying that may compromise the indicated use for patients with systemic lupus patients.
