In Dr. Dickson D. Despommier’s new book, The New City: How to Build Our Sustainable Urban Future, he proposes a visionary yet achievable plan for creating a new, self-sustaining urban landscape.

Parasites Without Borders (PWB) will be raising and matching funds for the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC), beginning in May through July, with a minimum pledged donation of $10,000 and a total gift of up to $20,000 for FIMRC.

Hosts and listeners gathered Saturday, April 15th to celebrate the 1000th episode of This Week in Virology (TWiV) with a live taping at Helen Mills Theater in New York City. Bringing science and fun to a widely misunderstood topic, TWiV educates listeners on virology, the study of viruses, in compact and easy-to-digest podcast episodes.

At Parasites Without Borders, our mission is “Getting knowledge to the people and places that need it the most.” Even if that means that 700 heavy textbooks make a month-long journey from the United States to Sudan complete with the hard work of a dedicated professor, forming an amicable relationship with a customs agent at the Khartoum Airport, and a post-delivery celebration for the entire parasitology department at the University of Khartoum.

One in three attendees of the ASTMH Annual Meeting is a student or a trainee. A significant percentage of them hail from low and low-middle income countries. Awardees are selected by the Travel Awards Committee based on the scientific abstract they submit.

Infectious Disease Puscast is co-hosted by Dr. Griffin and Sara Winn Dong, MD, and is released bi-monthly. In each episode, the doctors discuss the newest and most relevant findings in the field of infectious diseases.

Earlier this month, members of the Parasites Without Borders team traveled from New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Glasgow, Scotland to Seattle, Washington for the ASTMH 71st Annual Meeting at the Seattle Convention Center.

For the first time in three years, the American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (ASTMH) will be holding their Annual Meeting in-person. Thousands of doctors, scientists, researchers, members of academia, nonprofit organizations, and more will gather at the Seattle Convention Center in Seattle, Washington, Sunday, October 30th through Wednesday, November 3rd, for the 71st ASTMH conference.

Throughout August, September and October, all donations made to Parasites Without Borders will be matched by PWB and donated to Floating Doctors. PWB pledges a minimum donation of $10,000 and will match all of your donations, for a total gift to Floating Doctors of up to $40,000. These donations will help support our shared commitment to reduce the present and future burden of disease in the developing world, and to promote improvements in healthcare delivery worldwide.
