Beginning February 1 through April 30, all donations made to Parasites Without Borders (PWB) will be matched by the organization and donated to Floating Doctors, for a total gift of up to $10,000. Floating Doctors is a global nonprofit dedicated to reducing the burden of disease in the developing world and improving healthcare delivery worldwide. For Dr. Daniel Griffin, Parasites Without Borders Co-Founder and President, working with Floating Doctors is more than sending a donation. He’s been a regular volunteer for close to a decade.
“I’ve been volunteering with Floating Doctors since 2017,” says Dr. Griffin. “I’ve even brought my children to help. These are remote, difficult-to-access villages in Panama, which makes accessible healthcare a challenge. Floating Doctors goes beyond medical assistance and makes a valued difference in the community. Just this past October, Floating Doctors held its first-ever Cataract and Pterygium Surgery Campaign in Bocas del Toro, Panama. In one week, their team of volunteers restored sight and provided comfort to 256 patients. That is an extraordinary example of how donations to Floating Doctors translate into real-world assistance.”
Founded in 2009 by Dr. Benjamin LaBrot, Floating Doctors is a medical organization dedicated to serving the Ngäbe-Buglé communities in the Bocas del Toro region of Panama. Their mission is to overcome barriers to healthcare caused by rugged terrain, uncharted waters, poverty and social disenfranchisement. It has since grown into an organization with international recognition that thrives via volunteer engagement, community outreach and education, extensive partnerships with local health organizations and educational systems and an adaptability that allows it to tailor care to the needs of specific communities.
Floating Doctors offers programs for doctors, nurses, dentists and other healthcare workers, as well as non-medical personnel, to volunteer their time and talents to residents in communities throughout Panama. The organization’s goals include providing free acute and preventative healthcare services, facilitating community development and capacity initiatives, reducing child and maternal mortality, promoting healthcare improvement worldwide and more.
