Parasites Without Borders Releases Lecture Slides to Accompany Video Series

Since its inception in 2016, the doctors behind Parasites Without Borders have been on a mission to provide free medical resources for those on the frontlines of healthcare. In addition to the group’s seminal textbook, “Parasitic Diseases,” Dr. Daniel Griffin and the late Dr. Dickson Despommier hosted a 45-part video lecture series that explores the biology and pathogenesis of eukaryotic parasites. Parasites Without Borders has recently released complementary lecture slides as an additional free resource.

“When we first created the video course, we wanted to disseminate this critical information on a global scale,” says Dr. Daniel Griffin, co-founder of Parasites Without Borders. “It became a dependable resource and educational tool for clinicians, educators, and global healthcare workers. Parasites Without Borders has always believed our greatest contribution to the fight against parasitic diseases is free and accurate information. We’ve received requests to release the lecture slides that accompany the video presentation, and we’re pleased and honored to do so.”

When Dr. Dickson Despommier, Dr. Daniel Griffin, and Dr. Charles Knirsch founded Parasites Without Borders, their goal was to supplement global medical education resources, which often overlooked the subject of parasitic infections. As Dr. Despommier notes in the first lecture video, “…the subject has been essentially marginalized at most medical schools, which is a shame, because the diseases represented in our book…still exist, are still out there, and are still infecting millions and millions of people, and there’s a lot of suffering that still goes on. And yet, we’re really not bringing that information to the clinical community, who can actually make use of it.”

Parasitic Diseases Lectures was produced by Dr. Vincent Racaniello of MicrobeTV and made possible by a grant from the Donald and Barbara Zucker Family Foundation. Parasites Without Borders, in partnership with MicrobeTV, has a mission to provide free science education to all.
